The most fundamental support system for the body is nutrition. What you eat can have a dramatic effect on your health. Diet and Nutrition provide the ingredients the body needs to function. Naturopathic Doctors are equipped to assess and treat nutritional requirements for a variety of conditions. Lifestyle can also have a big influence on diet and health. Naturopaths can offer lifestyle changes that are health-promoting and healing. These can include things like weight management, social habits, sleeping patterns, work, stress and family life.
Botanical Medicine uses plants to help rebalance the body in many ways. Many medicinal plants are already a part of your diet in the form of herbs, spices, teas and food. Plants have been the basis of historical and traditional healing methods across all cultures and countries. Their compounds form the model after which pharmaceuticals are made. It is important to note that because of this close association with prescription medicines, there is often a natural alternative to medication as well as a very real risk of interactions with prescriptions and over the counter medications. Naturopathic Doctors are well trained in this area and can recommend options safe for each individual.
Homeopathy is based on the principle that “like cures like”. It uses miniscule doses to stimulate the body’s innate force to rebalance on its own. Homeopathy focuses on the individual and uses a very detailed personalized assessment to identify an appropriate remedy to resolve specific and generalized symptoms. Naturopathic Doctors are well versed in the use and application of Homeopathy, but differ from Homeopathic Doctors that specialize in only Homeopathy.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient healing system from China that focuses on the flow of Qi to identify and treat disturbance. It views the body from a perspective that acknowledges and respects the complex network of the inner body and the energy channels that weave through it. It is very much based on natural balance. It utilizes acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, massage, diet, lifestyle and herbs. Naturopathic Doctors are trained in Asian Medicine, TCM theory, therapies and acupuncture, however, they are not Registered TCM Practitioners or Registered Acupuncturists without a separate license.
Understanding and incorporating mental health is an important part of holistic healing. Communication with others as well as the self is paramount to developing a healthy sense of self in which perspective corresponds with behavior. Counseling through changes, emotions and connecting the mind and body is a unique and significant role of Naturopathic Medicine. Naturopaths will often work concurrently with specialists for patient needs.
Physical medicine uses the body’s natural kinetics to assess and treat. It takes many forms in Naturopathy including orthopedic tests, manipulations, exercise & stretching, hydrotherapy and externally applied treatments. It is often used to restore structure and function and to support immunity, healing and detoxification. Hydrotherapy is the use of water and other natural materials for healing and comfort. It includes things like hot/cold packs, saunas, Epsom salt baths, peat baths, steam baths or inhalations and poultices. It allows one to continue the healing process at home and at one’s convenience.
Lab tests are an excellent tool for diagnosis and assessing progress. Naturopathic Doctors regularly use and interpret the same standard tests any Medical Doctor will use, plus many more. These can encompass blood, stool, urine, saliva, breath, taste and hair tests. Dr. Clark, ND offers these as well as a variety of specialized tests for food sensitivities. All tests have the convenience of being done in-house or at home.
Our onsite dispensary offers convenience for patients and ensures our high standards for supplements are met. Naturopathic Doctors emphasize the importance of good quality products for good results. Supplements can vary greatly in their ingredients, the sources, the forms of vitamins/plants used, supporting factors, synergistic effect, additives and preservatives. Naturopathic Doctors are educated to source out the cleanest, most absorbable, least aggravating options. Our onsite dispensary carries select, high quality, guaranteed products and includes many Professional Brands only available through an ND.
New patients can expect non-judgmental, open discussions around their concerns and daily life. Visits often consist of detail-oriented questions about their physical, mental and emotional aspects of their life. Regular follow up visits are encouraged and are vitally important to provide support through changes, to assess progress and to ensure movement in the right direction. Naturopathic Medicine takes the time it needs to truly understand each individual and their needs. Dr. Clark enjoys working together with patients to tailor protocols so they are manageable and maintainable.
